Clinical Services

Our customized evaluations include an extensive history, standardized and/or non-standardized testing, clinical observations, and caregiver reports to ensure we get the most accurate and complete understanding of each client’s strengths and challenges. This then allows us to make recommendations and develop an individualized treatment plan focused on building skills and enhancing strengths.

No physician referral is needed to initiate an evaluation and Sense-Able Solutions accepts both state (HUSKY) and commercial insurances.

Clients typically begin OT services with individual treatment sessions. Each client is assigned a primary therapist who works with them one-on-one to strengthen underlying deficits, learn compensatory skills, and develop strategies for handling challenges. Treatment sessions are 1 clinical hour and include time to consult with parents or caregivers.

Parents or caregivers are often encouraged to observe and/or participate in treatment sessions. Occupational therapy is covered by most insurance plans and Sense-Able Solutions billing staff will work with you to determine what your plan allows.

Sense-Able Solutions will contract with schools and agencies who would like or need to offer occupational therapy services to their students/clients. We have therapists with experience working in educational, residential, and community-based settings.

From covering a maternity or workers comp. leave, to providing a supervising OTR for COTAs, to providing a full range of OT services for your setting, our contracted services can be customized to meet your needs.

Please contact our Occupational Therapy Supervisor for more details about contracting with Sense-Able Solutions to meet your occupational therapy needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Trust your gut! We know that moms and dads know their children best and we want to help you. You can complete and submit a screening form for review or contact us via email or phone and we will happily discuss your concerns with you.

The earlier concerns are addressed the better but never feel like it’s too late. The therapists at Sense-Able Solutions are experienced in working with children and young adults from birth up through 21 years old. Our treatment sessions are designed to build skills using activities that meet both clinical and developmental needs to ensure that no matter what age or stage your child is at their needs will be met.

From the outside it looks like the therapist and children are just playing and this is what it feels like to the kids; they come into the gym and get to swing on all different kinds of swings, race scooter boards, create obstacle courses, make slime, and so much more. On the other hand, the therapist is carefully structuring the environment and activities so throughout each therapy session the child is actually building skills and developing new strategies.

Each child’s session will be unique but some common tools and approaches we use include: practice with shoe tying and zipping at the end of each session by putting on shoes and coats, using picture schedules to help organize and focus, incorporating both high- and low-energy activities to practice moving smoothly between different levels, and lots of heavy work and cognitive skill development in the form of setting up and putting away all the equipment for their treatment session.

Last but not least, every treatment session at Sense-Able Solutions includes time to consult with parents or caregivers to make sure what we are working on in the gym transfers out into the rest of the child’s world.

School-based occupational therapy services are considered “related services,” meaning they are very specifically focused on supporting a child’s ability to be successful in the educational environment or to access the curriculum. It is the job of the school OT to address deficits that impact the child’s success at school; if your child is holding it together at school or they have areas of challenge that are not impacting their education they will not be addressed by school-based OT, but that doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be addressed at all.

Outpatient occupational therapy focuses on the whole child, across all environments, and in all activities that they engage in. This wider lens allows us to address concerns that a school OT often cannot. Outpatient OT also has the wonderful advantage of being able to use interventions that are not practical or appropriate for the educational setting.

This combination of a wider scope and different interventions means that outpatient OT provides a totally different, though complimentary, treatment for both children who are receiving OT at school and those who don’t qualify for school-based OT.
