We received this kind email from Laurie, who recently visited, and this is what she had to say about Ädelbrook and the Bark-ery…
My name is Laurie and I was in the Ädelbrook Bar-kery in Middletown about a month ago. The education your schools provide for people with disabilities is something that’s near and dear to my heart. One lesson my mother always taught me and my siblings is that it’s important to give back to the community. She always had us volunteering for MDA, Special Olympics, school functions, and Relay for Life.
The day I was at the Bar-kery I got a tour of store which included the kitchen where the dog goodies are baked. I was very impressed to see pictures of the ingredients in the order they needed to be added for the people that have difficulty reading written words. I used to volunteer in my kids classrooms when they were younger; I loved to work with the students to help develop their writing skills. A friend of mine and I also co-founded a Young Writers Group for high school students. I just love working with kids.
Your schools and all of the different programs and techniques you incorporate into the curriculum are impressive; it’s so innovative. It reminds me of the saying “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child.” Thank you for loving kids too.
Thank you Laurie for coming into the Bark-ery to support the students who are working so hard and making such amazing progress. We look forward to seeing you again.
