This year marks a remarkable milestone in Ädelbrook’s journey — 125 years of lighting the way for youth and young adults with autism, intellectual, and developmental disabilities. Since 1900, Ädelbrook has been committed to supporting young people in our community. What began as a Swedish Christian orphanage has grown into a trusted, statewide network of care, with behavioral services spanning special education, residential living, in-home supports, and more.

In our earliest days, Ädelbrook was established as the Swedish Christian Orphanage. Its mission was to “provide a home for homeless and neglected children… and provide not only for the physical needs of a child, but that the Word of God be taught… so that each child may discover the joy and security of a Christian faith.” Over the decades, we’ve expanded not only in size, but in vision. Today, Ädelbrook stands as a leader in interdisciplinary, trauma-informed care—empowering hundreds of individuals across 26 locations in Connecticut. Through innovation and unwavering dedication, our team creates environments where every child receives the support and tools needed to thrive.

As part of our 125th anniversary celebration, we were honored to be featured in Cromwell Life, a publication that highlights people and organizations making a difference in the local community. The article shares insights into Ädelbrook’s rich legacy and shines a light on the compassionate professionals, educators, and caregivers who continue to support our mission every day. The article highlights the heart of our work and the lasting impact we’re making—from the Cromwell Academy food pantry to our newest educational academy in Bloomfield.
